This time things were very different to my first leap into the whirlpool of marriage. Linda was amazing and despite two personal tragedies during that year, first her mother died and then her father was declared bankrupt, the marriage went ahead. Her father Wally came to live with us and we got on pretty well. He had his own room and kept out of our way. We had a long garden and Wally soon had a vegetable plot going, providing us with plenty of fresh food. I got strawberry and raspberry beds going and Linda kept the flower beds going. Work was going well and life was looking up. I had two business trips to the USA and installed one of my systems in the companies French subsidiary. However, I never got the plaudits that my skills deserved. After a few years with us, Wally met another woman and to our great surprise they got married and found a flat near us in Peacehaven, Sussex. I told Linda about my cross dressing before we married and although she didn’t understand it, or particularly like it, she allowed me to indulge my need occasionally. But somehow it just made me more depressed when I had to return to male mode. In 1990 the company I worked for was taken over by an ‘asset stripping’ one, and some of the divisions were sold off including the ones I mainly worked with. All of us at the Brighton head office were made redundant, but I was lucky and after applying for six jobs I got five interviews and was offered four jobs. Two of those offers were based on systems I designed that they knew of. I accepted a position as IS Manager with Chivers (the jam and jelly people) in Cambridge and a long drawn out attempt to move started. It took us 18 months to sell our house in Eastbourne and constant journeys back to the old house took their toll on me, especially as it was at the time they were building the Dartford Bridge and we frequently suffered all the delays that went with it. But finally we were able to move from rented accommodation to a new house in Ely.
